Gazela it is a light, fresh and versatile wine, with a fruity bouquet and flavor. It is ideal with meals on its own as an aperitif.

Gazela is produced at the Azevedo Manor Estate, a magnificent estate purchased by Sogrape in 1982. Located at Lama, near Barcelo, Quinta de Azavedo is ideal for the production of high-quality Vinho Verde. The best regional wine varieties are planted here, especially Loureiro and Pederna, both recommended for making Vinho Verde. The estate is also equipped with a modern vinification centre.

Manuel Vieira

Manuel Vieira is the son of a renowned Professor of Oenology at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (Higher Institute of Agronomy) and assistant to important domestic producers. Thus, he grew up in an environment of vineyards and wineries which always fascinated him. Interestingly, he came late to Oenology, having wasted time on courses he wasn’t interested in (Faculty of Science and Technology) to please his father, for whom there was no future in being a winemaker.

He may have come late to the profession, but it can be said that Manuel Vieira joined at the top when in 1985 he accepted an invitation to join the Ferrerinha winemaking team – which, among others meant working with Fernando Nicolau de Almeida and participating in making such mythical wines as Barca Velha.

With the acquisition of Ferreira by Sogrape in 1987, the doors were open for him to go to the Dão region and the Quinta dos Carvalhais, where he took over the Œnology Department in 1997.

Two years later, Manuel Vieira was challenged by Sogrape management to also take on responsibility for Vinho Verdes (Gazela, Quinta de Azevedo and Morgadio da Torre), a situation that continues to this day.
